Certification of Russian as a Forign Language (TORFL)
Samara State University is authorized to test Russian as a foreign language. Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) has been established by the Russian Ministry of Education and is recognized by the Association of Linguistic Testers of Europe (?L??). TORFL-2 is a requirement for admission into all Universities, where instruction is in Russian. TORFL test score is valid in perpetuity on all the territory of Russia and for all Russian establishments & the organizations abroad.
Samara State University can certify the following levels of Russian Language competence:
- TEL. Test of Russian as a Foreign Language, Elementary Level. The elementary level corresponds to the minimum level of communication competence, which enables the student to cope with elementary communicative tasks in the limited number of everyday situations.
- TBL. Test of Russian as a Foreign Language, Basic Level. This level refers to the basic communicative competence enabling the student to handle basic communicative tasks in the limited number of social, everyday life, and cultural situations.
- TORFL-1. Test of Russian as a Foreign Language. First Certificate Level. If passed successfully, this certificate confirms that its holder can satisfy his/her main communicative needs in such spheres as everyday life, social activities, culture, education, and professional communication according to the state standard of ROFL. Obtaining such a certificate is a prerequisite for entering Russian universities.
- TORFL-2. Test of Russian as a Foreign Language. Second Certificate Level. This certificate is corresponds to quite a high level of language competence, enabling the holder to manage efficient communication in all spheres of life necessary for a specialist in a relevant field: humanities (except for philology), engineering, natural sciences, etc. This certificate is required from graduates of Bachelor and Master degree programs offered at Russian universities (except Bachelor and Master degree in Philology).
Samara State University issues official certificates of completion for all its courses. As a rule, students can obtain credit through their home universities for participation in SSU summer schools or taking the Russian language courses. The amount of credit awarded is at the discretion of the individual institutions and is usually dependent on the satisfactory completion of the course or written work, if set by SSU faculty.
